Letter from Lee Kauffman

Missionary to the Jola people of West Africa

Subject: July Praise and prayer requests for the Jola-fonyi people
Date:
Monday, July 06, 2009 7:56 AM

Thank you for praying for Abdoulaye and Joseph (May and June requests).  After they were baptized they recorded a message for the Northridge Baptist Church in Jerome Idaho thanking them for what they had done in sending people to Diouloulou to tell them about Jesus.  Abdoulaye closed saying he desired for the people of Diouloulou and the surrounding villages to hear and understand the message of Jesus Christ.  He finished with hands raised declaring, “All Senegal for Christ!”  But for these two young followers of Jesus the phrase, "All Senegal for Christ!" is more than just words that were spoken in the excitement after their baptism. They began Bible studies in the villages of Djibali, Badionkoto and Missira. All of this in addition to their weekly Bible study that they have in Diouloulou. How exciting it is to see God do an amazing work in the lives and hearts of these two followers of Jesus. He has given them a love for Jesus, a love for His Word, and a love for the people of Diouloulou and the surrounding villages who have never heard the Gospel. Please join us in praying that God will continue to give these men great boldness in declaring the Gospel of Jesus Christ so that one day "All Senegal for Christ!" will be a reality!

Please pray for the three person vision team (Michael, Mark, and Hannah) coming July 17-24 from Emmanuel Community Church in Lewisburg, WV.  Pray for their travel as Air Senegal is still not flying to Zig and it is a 9-12 hour drive from Dakar.  Specifically pray that an airline would be flying into Zig before their arrival.  Pray for their safety and health while traveling and while staying in the Casamance.  Pray for the health and safety of their families that they leave in the states.  Pray for the Lord’s guidance in showing them about the Jola people; where we should go and who we should speak with.  Pray that we can share God’s word with many people each day as we go into different villages.  Pray for them as they report back to their church and as their church decides how they will be involved with the Jola people.

Please pray for the volunteer team (Ron, Barb, and Matt) coming from Fourway Baptist Church, Ft. Lupton, Colorado Aug. 1-13.  This team will be teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) to high school students in Bougoutoub.  Every junior high and high school student in Senegal has to take English every year and pass a test in order to receive their high school diploma.  This team plans to teach ESL using stories from the Bible from our evangelism track.  Pray for the team as they prepare to come, as they travel, for all of their bags to arrive with them, that there will be a flight running from Dakar to Zig and back, for their health and safety while in the Casamance, that they will have knowledge beyond themselves in teaching these students, that God’s love would show through them, and through this program the students and their families will hear about Jesus and accept Him as their Savior.  Pray that God would be preparing theses students’ hearts to truly hear and accept His message.  Pray that this program would not only help them with their English but lead them to the Lord.

Rainy season has started and most people are busy in the fields.  It makes it harder for the Jola people to take time to hear God’s word when their days are so busy.  Pray that the people would have a burning desire to hear God’s word and that they would respect their Bible study times in the villages of Teubi, Koubalan, Kourouk, and Bougoutoub.  Please pray that they will hear with open hearts and ears and accept Jesus as their Savior.

Pray that the people in the village of Teubi will respond to the Gospel message of Jesus with faith and obedience.  In the next couple of weeks they will be asked what they believe about Jesus.

Pray that the people studying the Bible in Koubalan will respond in faith and obedience in baptism as they are asked what they believe about Jesus this month also.

Pray for Annie and Yancey as they seek to follow Jesus and desire to have a marriage relationship based on Jesus.
