Letter from Lee
Kauffman
Missionary to the Jola people of West Africa
Subject: January Praise and Prayer Request for the
Jola-fonyi people
Date: Sat, 31 Dec 2005 15:12:29
"I thank my God for you every time I think of you; and every time I pray
for you all, I pray with joy because of the way in which you have helped
me in the work of the gospel from the very first day until now."
Philippians 1:3-5. We do thank God for each of you faithful prayers.
Without your prayers and encouragement, we could not continue in our
ministry. "The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective."
James 5:16b. Please feel free to copy these requests and pass them out
at your church, to your family, or to your friends who also want to pray
for the Jola people. The Jola team has a goal to have at least 3,000
people praying for the salvation
of the Jola people.
Thank you for praying for the prayer walk team that came in December.
Everyone stayed healthy, all of their trips to and from America were
safe and uneventful, and God showed us many exciting things. Last year
both Gayle and Matt were named after people in our village. They were
able to see these people again, pray with each of them in their homes,
and the joy and excitement in their faces was priceless. When Bintou
saw Gayle she hugged and kissed her and was so happy to see her. We
prayed in almost every household in our neighborhood. We were able to
pray in five of the classrooms in both our school and school in the
village of Soutikene. Two of the teachers in Soutikene are from
Bougoutoub, the village we live in. All three of the prayer walkers were
asked to pray at the meeting after prayer time at the mosque on Friday
at 2 PM. We were able to pray with a large group of elders in Koubalan.
We also were able to see the huge rice harvest going on in Koubalan and
the people there said the harvest was good because God was providing for
them because of our prayers in the name of Jesus.
Pray for MT and his wife NS as they seek to know the Truth, Jesus
Christ. Pray that they will accept Him as Savior and reject Islam and
the African Traditional Religion of their people and follow Jesus with
all of their heart. Pray for Burt and Suzanne to be faithful in sharing
the Truth with them and others in their village.
About a year ago a man in our village came and asked Lee for a Bible in
Arabic, which we gave him. He is not Jola but has been living in our
village since his birth. About six months ago we began to give him the
cassettes of Bible stories in his language. A week ago we came across
him on our trail and gave him a ride. While he was riding with us he
said he believed God's Word in the Bible and from the cassettes and
wanted to believe in Jesus but he had some questions and could he come
see us. We said yes he could come any time he wanted to. He has not
come by yet and we
don't feel we should just go visit him as he made it sound like he
wanted to keep his visit quiet. He kept saying he believed Jesus was
the truth. His wife was one of the ladies that faithfully came to the
storying group that I had three years ago, but she is not attending at
this time. She has heard God's word and she was present the day that
many ladies prayed to accept Jesus as their Savior. Please pray for
this seeker and his wife that God would continue to reveal Himself to
them, that he would have the courage to ask questions, and that they
would accept Jesus as his Savior.
