Letter from Lee Kauffman

Missionary to the Jola people of West Africa

Subject: September Praise and Prayer Requests for the Jola-fonyi
Date: Thursday, September 06, 2007 4:11 AM

We continue to praise God for providing “The Righteous Way” stories in Jola-fonyi.  This 100 story set is chronological Bible stories in 15 minute segments ready to be put on the radio. This past week we have used them in five different households and everyone really likes them and wants to continue hearing them. One older man has come by every day this week to hear more stories.  Please pray that their interest would continue and that this would lead them to understand who Jesus is and that they would want to accept Him as their personal Savior.  Pray that God would pave the way for Jola pastors to get these stories on the radio weekly for free.

Ramadan (the 30 days of fasting that is required by Islam) starts around September 13th, depending on the position of the moon.  Please pray that God would reveal Himself to the Muslim people in a special way through dreams, visions, or other ways that would touch their hearts.  This is a time that they are seeking God and we want them to discover the true and living God.  Pray that during this time that many more will want to hear “The Righteous Way” tapes.

Pray for the group in Sunni, who have heard the story of Jesus, but have not met for a year.  Pray that during this time of fasting that we will make contact with them again and that they will be open to hearing “The Righteous Way” tapes.  Pray that this will reinforce what they already heard and they will want to follow Jesus as their only Lord and Savior.

Friday is the Muslim holy day.  Jola Muslims pray five times a day no matter where they are but on Friday at 2 PM it is required that you pray at the mosque.  If you do not pray at the mosque, this is considered a great sin.  They also believe that the further you have to travel to get to the mosque, the more blessings you will receive.  We have special things that we pray about each Friday.  We pray that as the Jola pray in the mosque they will not have a sense of peace (peace is very important to them), that they will have a sense of confusion, that they will realize that what they are worshipping is not the truth, that God would reveal Himself to them, that they would want to know who Jesus is, and that they would accept Jesus as their Savior.  Please join us in praying about these things each and every Friday.
