Letter from Lee Kauffman

Missionary to the Jola people of West Africa

Subject: Subject: October 2007 Praise and Prayer updates for the Jola-fonyi people
Date: Thu, 4 Oct 2007 3:33pm

Thank you for praying for the storying group in Banni, Lee's storying group
of men on Friday, and for people hearing "The Righteous Way" tapes in
Jola-fonyi. Last week was the last story of the 21 story cycle and Omar
said he believed in Jesus. Then two days later when Lee finished the tapes
in his storying group with the men, after asking many questions for several
months, Badra said he believed in Jesus. We praise God for these men's
belief. Please pray for Omar and Badra that this faith would grow and that
they would step out and openly follow Jesus. Many people still want to
hear "The Righteous Way" tapes so please continue to pray that they will have
ears to hear, mind to understand, heart to believe, and a spirit to follow
Jesus.

Recently a four year old Jola-fonyi boy fell ill with malaria. He was
taken to the village clinic but the nurse was unavailable for treatment. He was
then taken by horse cart to the next village which is five miles away and
the nurse there said he couldn't help him, take him to Bignona, which is
another 8 miles away. On their way to Bignona again by horse cart, the boy
died. Pray for competent and caring health workers among the many
Jola-fonyi villages and that medicines for treating common diseases like
malaria will be available at all times.

Pray that as we near the end of Ramadan, the Schmitz and the two believers
in their village will be able to bear witness of Jesus to those who are
without hope. Pray that they will be able to present the truth of
salvation by faith in Jesus and that those that hear will have a desire to know Jesus
and a heart to believe.

School normally starts in Senegal in early October, but with Ramadan (30
days of fasting) not finishing until mid-October village schools will not
get started until early November. We have strategies in several schools
this year and we would like to start the school year by asking each of you
to pray for open doors into these schools, for the students and teachers,
and that we will have opportunities to pray and share God's Word.
Bougoutoub, Diouloulou, Koubalan, and Tionk Essil are the names of the
villages where we are all ready working or might possibly have work in
their schools. Pray that the Lord will go before us to prepare hearts and that
these students will do well in school this year.
