Missionary to the Jola people of West Africa
Subject: Subject: December 2007 Praise and Prayer
Update for the Jola-fonyi people
Date: Wed 12/5/2007 2:25 AM
Thank you for praying
for the team that came from NorthRidge Fellowship, Jerome, Idaho. Pastor
Matt Boyd wrote; Jesus said, “Behold, a sower went out to sow” (Mark
4:3, KJV). Jesus’ words proved to be the theme of our time in Diouloulou.
When we arrived in Senegal before dawn on Tuesday morning we found out
that our Air Senegal flight was cancelled due to mechanical problems. So
we had to make the long 9 hour drive from Dakar to Bougoutoub. We
traveled to Diouloulou on Thanksgiving morning only to learn that the
school teachers were on strike and that classes had been cancelled.
While the strike kept us out of the high school for the first few days
of the trip, it did not keep us away from the teachers. We were able to
spend many hours in the teacher’s homes continuing to build
relationships and to share the Gospel with them. We tried to coordinate
and schedule the showing of the Jesus film in the village, but
the Muslim teachers were reluctant to allow them to show it. God
worked out all of the details and we showed the film to around 100
people. Classes resumed Monday morning and we spoke in several
classes and were able to interact with the students. It was a joy to see
familiar faces and to have some of the students say that they have done
some reading in the Bibles that we gave them last spring. On
Monday we were challenged to a debate with the Muslim teachers. We met
in a classroom Monday evening to debate three points chosen by the
Muslim teachers: 1) Is Mohammad the true successor of Jesus? 2) Is
Jesus’ message universal? 3) Does original sin exist? The debate lasted
two hours and provided many opportunities for the team to share the
Gospel and to dispel the stereotypes they had about what a follower of
Jesus Christ truly believes. Despite travel problems, a school strike,
and trouble coordinating the Jesus film, God’s Word was sown
throughout Diouloulou. Whether we were planting or watering, we look
forward to God giving an increase as He uses His Word and the truth of
the Gospel to change hearts and lives in Diouloulou (1 Corinthians 3:6).
Please continue to pray for the people in Diouloulou who have
heard the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Pray
for Camille, a seeker, who is having tremendous stress in her household
at this time. She is the third wife and does not live with her Muslim
husband. She supports her 6 children without any help from her husband.
Pray that she will trust Jesus as Savior and will follow Him with all
of her heart. Pray that she will have wisdom to deal with the
difficulties she is having with one of her children. Pray
that God will reveal Himself in tangible ways to Camille and her
children.
Pray
for those that are hearing the Way of Righteousness tapes to come to
Jesus as Savior and Lord. Pray that they will seek Him with all
of their heart so that He will be found by them. Pray that they
will renounce their belief in a works based religion and proclaim
themselves as followers of Jesus.
Pray
for those in Bougoutoub who say they believe in Jesus that they will
have a desire to meet together to study God’s word and pray while the
Kauffman’s are gone on stateside assignment.
