Letter from Lee
Kauffman
Missionary to the Jola people of West Africa
Subject: July Praise and Prayer Request for the
Jola-fonyi people
Date: Fri, 7 Jul 2006 09:50:13 -0000
In a Jola Muslim village that has no electricity, phone, or running
water, the people in the village have decided that they need speakers
and a microphone to assist in calling their people to prayer five times
a day. This is done by using one solar panel and one battery. This call
to prayer five times a day can be very irritating to a Christian as it
calls the people to come pray to Allah in Arabic and is one of the five
things that a Muslim must do in order to earn ones way into heaven.
Pray that this can be used for God's glory and that each time this call
is heard, the Christians would pray that these people would hear and
believe that Jesus is their Savior. Pray that it would make the secret
believers bolder in telling others about Jesus; who he is and what he
has done for them. Pray that one day all the people of this village
will know Jesus personally! Pray that this mosque will be a place where
Christians come to worship Jesus.
Because of your giving to the Lottie Moon Christmas
Offering, we are able to
have a career missionary in this Muslim village. Thank you for giving
through the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering to reach a lost world! We
are excited to report that Southern Baptists gave a record amount -
$137,939,677.59 - through the 2005 offering. Your faithful giving
enables us and more than 5,100 colleagues to continue our work and to
support new colleagues coming to join our efforts. Lives have been
changed because of your giving. 137 people groups had access to the
Gospel for the first time. I am grateful for your faithfulness! Please
continue to partner with us to complete the unfinished task of reaching
the Jola people to Christ.
A pastor in the states has contacted us wanting his
church to adopt a Jola village for prayer and evangelization. Pray for
the Jola team as they decide what village God would want this church to
adopt and also for the church as they continue to seek God's will for
their response.
The Kauffman's feel lead to start a new storying group in one of the
surrounding villages. Pray for God's leading so they would know which
village to choose for this new group.
Please pray for Stan, Kevin, and Katie as they prayer walk in several
Jola areas July 8-14. They will spend two days in Tionk Essil praying
and strategizing with an African missionary on how to win that village
to Jesus. In Bougoutoub we will be going to several new areas to pray
and also ask if we can come and "story' in their village. Please pray
for travel safety and good health for the entire team and their families
who are home in the states.
All West Africa IMB missionaries will be meeting from July 20-29 for
training, worship, and fellowship. Please pray for travel safety, for
the workers coming to help with children's VBS and those coming to help
with adult meetings. Pray that everyone stays healthy and that it will
be a good time of spiritual renewal and fellowship.
